Solar Panels for Schools
Solar panels are a great option for schools, colleges & universities often there are large flat roof areas which can be perfect for the installation of a solar array.
Producing your own electricity allows the school to be less reliant on traditional energy sources, at the same time you are able to save money on electricity bills and produce additional revenue via the Government backed Feed-in-Tariff (FiT), at the same time you are able to reduce the schools carbon footprint.
State-funded Ash Green faced funding cuts and rising operational expenses. They decided to go green because simply tightening the budget did not leave enough for the school’s educational programs and activities. Installing solar would not only reduce the power bill, but also protect them from rising electric prices.
Solarlex installed a rooftop 10.2 kW PV system with 255W panels. It performed so well, a second, larger 29.58 kW system was added, installed in just four days!
Ash Green’s two PV systems are predicted to generate a total 32,856 kWh annually, providing over 80% of its energy needs. Since the school gets government’s Feed-In-Tariff, they can sell excess power back to the grid, and, as both systems are under 30kW, their energy company pays them back 50 percent on their total generated amount, even if they use more.
The systems will cut energy bills for 20 years or more, and reduce the school’s carbon emissions. They save 0.517kg of CO2 per PV kWh, totaling more than 365 tons over the next 20 years. Thanks to solar, Ash Green is not only a caring environment, but also caring for the environment.
Due to the outstanding work, both Solarlex and Enphase were 1 of 3 companies nominated for the Solar Power Portal award for ‘Public Space Installation’. They didn’t win but were extremely proud to be nominated.
